The Escape.

...if a building has stopped to fulfil its functions in terms of sheltering human activities, does it still have value?

The Escape is a sculpture created from iodises steel. located in the middle of the grounds of Hardwick old hall. The designed is inspired by multiple different shapes, located from a distorted photograph taken on site. The main focus of this project was to analyse the relationship between the ruins of the standing building (Hardwick Old Hall) and its surroundings. Creating a space that visitors can safely explore the ruin and its surrounding space. whilst I carried out multiple site visits, I became fixated on not just the beautiful ruin that remains but also the views surrounding. The sculpture is over 20 metres tall creating an 'escape' into the peaceful countryside at the top.
